The Shure MV7 Will Be The New Go To Microphone for Podcasters.
With Everyone on the Shure Bandwagon, There is Now a More Affordable Microphone Just for Podcasters.
If you have ever watched the podcasts of Joe Rogan, Gary Vaynerchuk, David Meltzer, or countless others, then you have seen the all too famous Shure SM7B microphone being used to produce these shows.
Coming it at a $400 price point, having two or more of those microphones in your studio was the surefire way to signal to the world that your podcast was legitimate, and that you are willing to invest more money than necessary into it.
Well… Shure finally just released the SM7B’s little brother, the MV7, and this podcast is MADE for podcasters. So let’s take a look at what it can do.
This Microphone Is Made For Podcasting. Hands Down.
While the Shure SM7B has always been a staple in podcasting, the microphone is really a higher end microphone that is often used for professional recording of all varieties.
The Shure MV7 on the other hand is being released as a cheaper alternative for those of us that only plan on using our microphone to talk, and not to play instruments, sing, or make any other noises that we can think of.
With that being said, let’s look at the exact reasons why this microphone could be a much better choice for podcasters as time moves on.
1.) The Microphone is Nice and Portable.
Coming in at a smaller size than the SM7B, the MV7 was designed to be just that much easier to pack up and take with you on the road.
This will help the podcast hosts that want to be interviewing or conversationalizing (that’s a word now) with their guests in person, face-to-face.
2.) It Offers XLR and USB Inputs… And You Can Use Them at the Same Time.
This is the MAIN reason that I never picked up the SM7B as my microphone for my podcasts…. because you can’t plug those things into a computer.
Now the MV7 is offering a Shure quality microphone, that can be plugged into your computer OR a professional audio recorder.
The best part is that you can have both inputs plugged in at the same time, which means that it’s even easier to get backups of your recordings.
I won’t go into too much detail here as to why that’s important… but it’s important… Trust me.
3.) It’s Cheaper.
Plain and simple.
This new microphone costs $250 compared to its counterpart at $400. This allows you to nearly buy two of them for the price of one. It’s like Shure knows that podcast hosts are probably going to want at least two microphones.
4.) This Mic Comes With an App… Which is Kind of Cool?
To get the most out of Shure’s new MV7 microphone you will want to download the ShurePlus MOTIV app. Which seems like a bit of a pain… but it looks like it offers some helpful features.
The app allows you to manually adjust different settings on the microphone, and to make a long story short, that can help you streamline the production of your podcast by having everything set during recording, therefore meaning you have to do less in post production.
What’s the Verdict?
This microphone is still fairly new, and I wanted to get the word out as soon as I found out about it.
I know that the SM7B was always something on every podcaster’s wishlist, but it could be hard to justify the price point… especially if you want USB capabilities on your microphone.
Because of those reasons, the ATR-2100 microphone has been my microphone of choice… at least up until now.
So the bottom line is that you should go and look into this Shure MV7 for yourself if you are serious about podcasting and want to have high quality audio recordings.
It is still priced at a premium compared to other microphones, but the price seems to be justified. If you are getting most of the quality of the SM7B but just in a variation that is more oriented toward podcasting… this microphone is well worth the investment.
